My marans won't lay well in the heat of the summer but the BSL hens just keep on laying. The BSL hens lay grocery store colored light brown eggs while my marans lay the nice dark chocolate colored eggs. Black Star. Black Star Sex-Link chickens are an excellent brown egg-laying breed. A Sex-Link chicken is a hybrid which, at the time of hatch, can be sexed by its color. Our Black Stars and Red Stars meet our strict specifications: easy to raise, lay large brown eggs, and have a good feed-conversion ratio. Black Maran Sex Links are good layers like Black and Red Sex Links and produce dark brown eggs. The breed is of American origin and a cross between the Black Copper Maran male and Cuckoo Maran female. Mature females closely resemble the Black Copper Maran, but have less leg feathering and less copper in the neck. Males take after Cuckoo Marans. The one that supposed to be the last BCM the woman had is something else. Probably an olive egger. Looks like the BCM's I already have, black, feathered www.adult, except for one thing. The pea comb lol. The splash marans that I think is a pullet has. 2 or 3 random striped red feathers coming in.
